Watch out pumpkin beer, a new winter brew is coming to town. Beginning Nov. 1, Crozet’s Starr Hill Brewery will release their Box of Chocolates Stout Pack, a limited release 12-pack featuring four chocolate-flavored beers derived from the rich and smooth Double Bass Double Chocolate Stout.
Starr Hill’s original Double Bass Double Chocolate Stout is an imperial stout packed with bittersweet chocolatey aromas, hints of mocha, vanilla and cocoa, and has a robust, malty finish. Its three newest variants include Peppermint Double Bass, Chipotle Double Bass and Mocha Double Bass.
Much like its predecessor, the Peppermint Double Bass boasts bittersweet aromas from cocoa with a hint of minty freshness. The Chipotle Bass, on the other hand, offers a spicier kick as the heat from smoked peppers arises from the stout’s smooth, chocolatey finish. The Mocha Double Bass holds the closest resemblance in taste to the Double Bass Double Chocolate Stout, providing the same cocoa fragrance and chocolate additions enhanced with coffee flavors.
The brewmasters at Starr Hill recommend pairing any of the chocolate-inspired beers with aged Gouda cheese, baby back ribs glazed in Hoisin sauce or a decadent raspberry chocolate tart.
The Box of Chocolates beers will also be available on draft during Starr Hill’s “Dark Side of the Starr” Tap Takeover, ongoing through the end of December. The two month-long “Dark Side of the Starr” event celebrates dark styles of beer from stouts and porters to brown ales and bocks, all of which will be available at various markets, taprooms and restaurants across Virginia. Guests may also enjoy exclusive beer and food pairings from the local bars and restaurants hosting the takeover.
In addition to the Double Bass and its peppermint, chipotle and mocha variants, Starr Hill’s Debut Imperial Stout, Little Red RooStarr, 2 Tone, Snow Blind, Last Leaf and Dark Starr will also be featured on draft during the “Dark Side of the Starr” event.
