Husband and wife owners Mike and Kambra Prieto recently opened a retail space and workshop near downtown Hampton for Barrel-Art. The shop creates functional, handmade works of art from reclaimed wine barrels, including flights, pens, furniture and metal art designs.
The idea for Barrel-Art was born when the Prietos lost everything in a fire during their move to Europe four years ago. They needed furniture immediately and took up woodworking to build the critical pieces. Eventually Mike designed a piece of his own—a bar made from a French Oak barrel from Bordeaux. The result became so popular that the couple has kept things rolling and turned a hobby into a booming business.
